Vintage Wooden Shoe Stretcher – Early 20th Century Cobbler’s Tool

A wonderfully sculptural vintage wooden shoe stretcher, dating from the early 20th century.

Made from beautifully grained solid wood with its original metal screw-adjustment mechanism and turned wooden handle, this traditional tool would once have been used to help maintain or gently stretch the shape of a shoe.

The warm honey-toned wood has developed a lovely natural patina, while the darkened metal fittings show the character and wear expected from an authentic working piece.

No longer simply utilitarian, these old cobbler’s tools make wonderful decorative objects — particularly styled on a stack of books, a console table or amongst other collected curiosities.
