A wonderfully weighty vintage Egyptian silver-plated cigarette box, likely dating from the early to mid-20th century. It is stamped Made in Egypt and is richly embossed on every side with Egyptian scenes, including a chariot, Pharaoh-style profiles, a winged scarab and a Nile boat.
Likely silver plated over copper, years of use and polishing have worn the silver away in places to reveal the warm copper beneath. This gives it a beautifully timeworn finish and the sort of collected character you might expect to find in a country house — an intriguing souvenir brought home from far-flung early 20th-century travels.
The hinged lid opens to a warm wood-lined interior. A striking decorative box for letters, matches, keepsakes or display.
