A refined set of four Japanese eggshell porcelain teacups and saucers, circa 1930s–40s. Exceptionally light and translucent, decorated in classic blue-and-white with delicate oriental garden scenes. Stamped “Made in Japan” to the base. Elegant, fragile, and beautifully decorative — perfect for display or special-occasion tea.
Two elegantly dressed women in kimono-style robes standing by a riverbank
• A small boat on calm water (symbol of travel, leisure, poetry)
• Pavilions and houses with gently curved roofs in the distance
• Mountains and trees forming a serene landscape
• Overhanging flowering vines (often interpreted as wisteria or stylised blossoms)
• A geometric border of repeating floral and wave motifs around the rim
Decorated in cobalt blue with a serene riverside landscape depicting two figures in traditional dress beside water, with boats, pavilions and distant hills beneath flowering vines. The border features intricate geometric and floral motifs typical of Japanese export porcelain of the early 20th century.
Each piece is stamped “Made in Japan”, dating the set to approximately 1921–1941, during the Taishō to early Shōwa export period.
Condition:
All pieces are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Light age-related wear only, consistent with gentle use.
A charming and increasingly hard-to-find matched set — ideal for afternoon tea, entertaining, or display.
