Hand-thrown in the foothills of the Pyrénées by La Poterie de la Colombe, this striking cylinder vase embodies the raw, tachiste spirit of 1960s studio pottery. A single inky-black splash cascades down its warm ochre body, creating a one-of-a-kind abstract motif that contrasts beautifully with the earthy clay beneath. Twin lug handles punctuate the silhouette, giving the piece a subtle sculptural presence while nodding to its original purpose as a vase pique-fleurs (flower-spike vase).
Why we love it
-
Authentic craftsmanship – Each Colombe piece was wheel-thrown, then spontaneously glazed by hand, so no two are ever alike.
-
Rich provenance – The workshop, founded by ceramicist Madeleine Brault, supplied Vallauris’ celebrated pottery scene before closing in the early 1970s.
-
Timeless palette – The muted ochre clay pairs effortlessly with Gustavian whites, sage greens and other neutral textures you’ll find throughout our collections.
