A rare and substantial antique artist’s studio easel by Winsor & Newton, London, dating to the late 19th / early 20th century.
This professional easel is constructed from solid hardwood with original iron fittings, designed for use in working studios rather than as a decorative or student piece. The tall adjustable central column, wing-nut clamps and wide tripod base provide excellent stability, reflecting the quality expected from one of Britain’s most respected art materials makers.
The surface shows decades of genuine studio use, with layered historic paint splatter and wear creating a rich, authentic patina. This is not later distressing but honest working wear, giving the easel a strong sense of history and visual depth.
The easel retains its original Winsor & Newton London maker’s label and has not been restored or stripped back, allowing the age, materials and character to remain fully intact. The timber has a warm, dark tone beneath areas of historic green and neutral paint, while the iron hardware shows appropriate age and surface wear consistent with period examples.
A striking and sculptural piece, ideal for:
• an artist’s studio
• interior styling with a layered, academic or bohemian feel
• gallery or shop display
• film, television and theatrical set use, where authentic period detail is essential
Antique Winsor & Newton easels of this quality and scale are increasingly hard to find, particularly with such strong studio character and original fittings.
